This unit even has a cable management arm, spring-loaded at the top to help combat that nagging pull from a cable hanging up. It's as though they sat down with someone who works with these tools and asked: “What tasks and problems do you deal with in your workflow, and how can we make them easier with fewer issues?” Working with SMD components near plastics can be an issue, so the smaller handle with its automatic 40w limitation can help. Since changing tips can affect temperature calibration, this unit provides thermocouples and a calibration section to quickly calibrate the temps with a new tip or handle change. In the accessories, they provided a silicone helping hands for wire coupling, which is a nice addition. They even supplied a small spool of solder to get you going.Add-on uses: drone repair, microcontroller prototyping, RC model electronics, audio cable repair, stained glass foiling, wire art, and jewelry repair.Opinion: This is a very good station for bridging the gap between through-hole work and micro electronic soldering with many useful features.

First, I will say that I own several YIHUA units. The brand is pretty solid as a whole. This unit is no exception, but I do have a complaint about it. My complaint is that the soldering station can only have one lead hooked up at a time. That means that if you have a repair that requires C210 and C245 tips you have to turn the unit around and unscrew the lead to change them out. That is the only flaw with the system design. If you do not expect to switch leads out often then this is a good unit for you.The YIHUA 982D SE heats up quickly and holds the temperature well while soldering. With the built-in calibration, you will get accurate temperatures when switching between C210 & C245. Units that don't have that feature tend to have big swings in temperature when switching tip size. The built-in calibration prevents this. Once calibrated, it hits the desired temperature quickly and maintains it. Being a higher wattage unit, soldering multiple layer boards is no problem. This kit includes plenty of tips to get you started. This is a great unit to get you started on C210 & C245 soldering.

This is a big upgrade from the basic soldering irons I’ve used before. It heats up very quickly, and the temperature stays much more consistent while working. The color display is clear and makes it easy to see the actual and set temperatures at a glance.I also like that it comes with both C210 and C245 handles. The smaller C210 tips are great for detailed work, while the C245 setup is better when I need more heat for larger joints. Switching between different tips is quick, and the included assortment covers most of what I normally need.The station itself feels well organized with the tip holder, solder wire holder, and cleaning area all built in. It takes up some desk space, but having everything together is worth it.Overall, this feels much closer to a professional soldering setup than a basic hobby station. Very happy with it so far.

I have used a number of soldering irons and kits over the years, but the YIHUA 982D SE is a significant step up from the typical hobby soldering station. It comes with two different handpieces, with the C245 intended for general soldering and the smaller C210 designed for more precise work. Having both gives you a lot of flexibility depending on what you are working on.The station has up to 200 watts of power, a full-color display showing both the set and actual temperature, four temperature presets, and automatic tip temperature calibration. I particularly like the number of cartridges included. There are seven C245 tips and four C210 tips, covering a good range of sizes and shapes. The included tip holders, brass wool, sponge reservoir, cable guide, and solder organizer also make this a very complete setup right out of the box.This is considerably more soldering station than I need for the occasional simple repair, but for anyone doing circuit-board work, connectors, or small electronic components, the combination of power, interchangeable cartridges, and two handpieces makes this a very versatile setup. As someone that solders mostly as a hobby, this solder station is great. I've been using a Yihua 8786D for the past couple of years, and it's been a great machine; accurate, easy to use, and over time surprisingly I've grown to trust Yihua products, and I own a couple of other things from them now as well. For me, this solder station is a massive upgrade over the 8786D. Sure, it doesn't have the hot air station as the 8786D, but in my opinion everything else about it is fantastic.First, the screen on this machine is great. It's easy to read, clear, and has a nice, modern look to it. The fact that you can tilt it is a nice bonus that while I don't need, is helpful to have. Next, the 4 adjustable preset memory heat buttons are convenient to have, it's great to be able to change temp on the fly without really having to think about it. The temp adjustment buttons on the iron itself are also welcome, and while I really don't use them, they are nice to have as an option.Changing tips is a breeze. Being used to my other solder station, where you have a multistep process to change the tips (granted a fairly simple process), the ease of changing them on this machine is a game changer for me. No more touching a hot iron if I need to change tips, these just slide in and out, no threaded retainer holding it on, just literally pull the tip out, and push in a new one. Takes less than five seconds. Also, the tips heat up insanely fast, in just seconds it's reached full temp and ready to go. I also love that this machine comes with two irons for the 2 different size tips, C210 and C245. I don't really use the C210 very much, as I can use the C245 for most of my micro soldering, but it's still nice to have. This brings me to the only negative I can really think of with this station, you can only have one sized iron plugged in at a time. It would have been great to be able to have both plugged in at the same time to be able to switch to without having to unplug one and plug in the other. Maybe this is why I've hardly used the C210. Either way it would have been convenient to be able to have them both plugged in ready to go, but it is what it is and it's really not a big deal for me.The build quality seems good. I haven't disassembled it to really inspect it but knowing how my other Yihua machines are build I don't question the quality, I'm more than confident in it. The number of tips it comes with is great and you'll immediately have pretty much all the tips you'll need to get started. I don't use the cable guide or mini solder spool holder so no comments on those.Overall, I'm more than satisfied with this 982D solder station. It's surpassed my expectations, and I hope to have it on my workbench for a number of years. Easy to recommend and rate five stars. Great solder station.
