Professional Ogee Style Rail and Stile Router Bit Set

I made some new cabinet drawer and door fronts for my bathroom remodel and i loved the price and the full bit set for this set up.They are high quality steel and they are very sharp for super smooth cutting that leaves less to sand when you are done.I would suggest making a set up block to dial in your router height for the rail and the stiles to get the alignment perfect.Very happy with my purchase and the ease of use of these bits!

REKCKRUL may seem like an peculiar brand name, but wherever that came from doesn't matter to me. I've acquired other tools with their branding and they have mostly been fantastic - in particular the Forstner bits. The only exception was a set of diamond core bits that are threaded to the international standard 14mm x 2.0mm instead of the advertised 5/8-16 for grinders in the USA, but they came with shanks so they are still usable with a drill motor.As for these bits, they look nice, seem properly welded and are very sharp. I like that the top and bottom elements are separate and can be adjusted for the width of the board. The photo shows the default configuration disassembled. There are two thicknesses of washer shims, plus there are extras included and the threaded shaft is long enough to accommodate thicker shim sets. I also like the extra material (the yellow part) that supports the cutting edges and lowers turbulence of the shavings. I'm between projects at the moment, but more than once I've wanted a set of bits like this before and not had them; now I do. Happy!

The most notable thing about these bits is their amazing price: at the time of this review, a little over $27 for the stick, cope AND panel raising bits. Sets from a premium maker cost easily ten times this price or more. So I entered the review with tempered expectations.Design: These bits appear to be designed for 3/4 inch stock on the stiles and rails, and 1/2 inch stock for the panel. Thicker panels are possible but would require additional machining to accommodate the groove in the rails and stiles. About 5/8 inch is the thinnest stiles and rails what would accommodate all components. Having made it, I don’t think I am a fan of the ogee style.•Use/Experience: I had some tulip off cuts, and used them to mock up a quarter of the door (stick cuts, one cope cut, the edge cut and end grain cut with a panel raising bit. Tulip is easily machined, but because it is so soft, sometimes generates fuzzy cuts. The panel raising bit cuts only the face side.The set comes with shims. You will need them. The set is not tuned out of the box. For me, getting the cut just right is a time consuming process with a few iterations. I am not a fan of multibit sets because of this. The panel raising bit is another chore getting the edges to fit nicely into the grooves. The stick bit cuts nicely. I had no tearout using two passes. The cope bit is a little more difficult to control in the end grain. Be sure to use a backer board to get additional control over the short length as the fence will not be enough.Out of the box, the coped joints are too loose. I did one iteration and inserted a shim in the cope bit. Much better, but still not quite there (photo). Expect setup to take a couple of hours. Once appropriately shimmed, future setups is not that time consuming. The panel raising bit is big, a little over 2-1/2 inches, beyond my biggest insert. So I used it without a ring (photo, note safety concern, fortunately panel is usually large enough that it is not relied on for support). It is considered medium sized. Large bits are 3-1/2 inches in diameter. There was some vibration during the milling process. Out of caution, I used 15000 rpm for the stick and cope bits and 8000 for the panel raising bit. I used a push stick that also held the surface down. Keep in mind, face side down.I think this set, with appropriate setup, can produce decent results (photos). The tear out in the corner is because I recut the rail after shimming. Cut the rails first to avoid this.In all fairness, this difficult is a result of it being a multi-bit set. Some tweeking is expected.•Quality: I have a few other REKCKRUL products. (I am glad I don’t have to pronounce it. Might be a Klingon curse). They all performed well given their budget market niche. I would consider purchasing other products from them. This is not a pro/production quality tool. I would be reluctant to use it in hard to machine materials like sugar maple, hickory or white oak.•Value: A great value for the new or occasional woodworker. With patience they are not a huge limitation. I am convinced that if you like the style, you can produce decent results. Not clear how long they will last or how hard it will be to match the ogee in the future.

I'm planning to use these bits for some painted cabinet doors and the set looks like a solid value. The cutters are tungsten carbide-tipped and cover the rail, stile, and raised panel profiles you need for a classic frame-and-panel door. The anti-kickback styling and the listed specs (shank size and max RPM) make it clear these are aimed at table-mounted routers and heavier setups.The packaging and extras seem thoughtful - individual cases, bubble wrap, and a small packet of shims/washers for dialing in the fit. The carbide tips appear very fine grained — this can determine how finely they can be sharpened and is one measure of quality. The tips appear well brazed also, without much variation, a good indication of their manufacturing quality overall. While the sales info talks about running the bits at speeds up to 18,000 rpm or variously, up to 16,000 rpm, and it’s true that smoother cuts are often obtained at higher rotational speeds, bits of this size are often topped out at around 12,000 rpm or even less. This was true in my test pieces, especially for the larger profile bit, which cut quite smoothly at ~12,000 rpm on my 1619EVS. At the price, with a coupon, currently running ~$32.30, I think this bit set is a great value — if you have a large (>= 3HP) variable-speed table mounted router and want to make nice cabinet doors. I recommend always trying to get the larger (1/2”) shank version — it should last longer, cut more smoothly, and only cost marginally more if any more at all.

I have been very happy with this 3 piece rail and stile router bit set, especially for building cabinet doors. It includes exactly what you need for a classic frame and panel door: a rail cutter, a stile cutter, and a raised panel bit. The bits arrived extremely well protected, each in its own hard case and wrapped in bubble wrap, so the cutting edges were pristine right out of the box. They are very sharp; even light contact while unwrapping was enough to remind me to treat them with respect.In use, the bits cut cleanly and leave a smooth surface. My test cuts in scrap stock came out with crisp profiles and no tear out, and the 1/2 inch shank version feels especially solid in the router table, with much less risk of chatter than you would expect from large profile bits. The raised panel bit is roughly 2.5 inches in diameter, so it does require a router table that can run at appropriately slower speeds, or you can always opt to use a flat panel if your setup is more limited. I really like that the set includes adjustment shims so you can fine tune the rail and stile match, and there is even a printed sheet that walks through common setup mistakes and how to correct them, which is a nice bonus for anyone dialing these in for the first time.Overall, the combination of sharpness, thoughtful packaging, included shims, and the completeness of the set makes it a strong value for hobby and small shop cabinet work.
