3x18 Cordless Brushless Belt Sander

This is a wonderful belt sander. It comes with multiple sander belts of various grits: 80, 100, & 120 grit. It is easy to change the belt by lifting the tension lever. That releases the tension and makes it easy to slide off and on belts. When the desired belt is positioned just press the tension lever back down and it holds the belt tightly. There is a variable speed control wheel that has 6 settings and it is compatible with Makita 18 volt batteries. It also has a tension tracking wheel to adjust the angle should the belt roll in or out but it was perfectly adjusted out of the box for me. It has a slip-on dust collection bad that captured about 50% if the dust generated. This sander is very attractive and built very well. It feels solid when using it.I sanded a heavy weathered 4x4 post section to demonstrate its power. I used a 100 grit belt and it made short work of the wood. If you have not used a belt sander before it is far more powerful than other types of hand held sanders. I am very pleased with it and I highly recommend this to anyone needing a cordless belt sander.

First and most importantly, this belt sander uses a lot of power for what I can see, and generic batteries won’t last as long as original Makita batteries.The sander works well, even though I didn’t take good video of it, just enough to show it working, but I already sanded some wood and it did a good job.I don’t have any other cordless belt sander to compare it with, so my review is just with the limited experience and use I have with this sander.

I have an old school corded belt sander, and it works just fine after all these years, but it is heavy. In some situations that is a good feature because the weight of the sander itself helps performing the work and all you have to do is guide it, but only if you’re running it on top of a flat surface. There is many times that I wished I had a light belt sander that I could use at different angles, even over my head, that would be manageable and prevent fatigue. This is that belt sander. Even with a reasonable size battery the weight of this sand is quite manageable. I have several tools now that were made by the manufacturer of the sander and they have all been quality products and reliable so far. It has all the features that you would expect in a good belt center. It has capability of walking the en suite so you don’t have to hold that for one term use. It has a rotating wheel which you can set the belt speed. It also has a knob for centering the belt tracking. One thing that is unique with this toy is the forward handle has a small amount of adjustment to customize the fit and feel of the tool. They provide a dust bag with a zipper to allow emptying and a coupler to attach a vacuum hose. They also supply several belts in an assortment of abrasive sizes

This sander works well for small jobs. The belts track straight, but the tracking knob is all the way to the max in one direction, and if the tracking starts to stray in the wrong direction, the tracking won't be able to correct it. For now, however, it works fine and sands well. The belt is easy to change via the lever that pulls out from the base in between the front and back wheels. The rubberized handle is comfortable. The 6 speed control works well and is useful when you want less aggressive sanding. It would be nice if it had a trigger lock switch to keep it running for long duration sanding. The sanding surface that contacts the work piece is about 3"x5", so it's not for large jobs, like floors. It is handy for small jobs like cabinet edges, furniture parts, etc.

So far this seems like pretty tough stuff. It's not brand-name quality but it is priced a fair bit cheaper and still works well. It's a good build and sturdy, just a lot more plastic and cheaper switches and knobs and such. Tough plastic with good overmolding. (There was a bit of leftover flashing in the dust bag connector tube, but 30 seconds with a hobby knife took care of that.)The belt is easy to swap out, just a plastic latch to flip out. It's been tracking well since arrival without needing any adjustment. There's a thin but metal platen underneath most of its surface area.The handle has a nice grip for each hand. I found it fairly easy to use both right- and left-handed, although the speed control knob (on the left) is a little easier to access right-handed. The "safety" button is actually to lock it on, it doesn't prevent the trigger itself. So for longer stretches you don't have to hold the trigger.Seemed to work pretty well. It went through a 2A battery pretty quickly and left it hot, so probably better to use it with larger capacity packs that usually also have more cells in parallel. No issues with battery fit, and it did shut off automatically when that pack got low 👍
